England international Phil Foden, was impressed with his Manchester City’s teammates after they cruised to a dominant 6-0 win over Ipswich Town in the Premier League on Sunday.
The Cityzens dominated the game from kickoff and scored six unreplied goals, as they moved temporarily back into the top four after enduring a poor spell between November and December.
Foden opened the scoring in the 27th minute from a Kevin De Bruyne’s cross, before Mateo Kovacic doubled the lead minutes later with a strike from the edge of the box. The 24-year old added a City third before halftime, after brilliant work by Jeremy Doku and Kevin De Bruyne in the buildup.
“Probably the best this season, in terms of all-round play. One of our best performances this year. We are building momentum, keeping players fit is important. I put it down to people being in better shape and the team is bonding better.
When we score we are not rushing it. We are keeping possession and build-up play was important today”, he said after the game.
Doku scored a fourth after halftime, before Erling Haaland celebrated his new long-term contract with the Cityzen’s fifth on the day. Substitute James McAtee added the icing on the cake, as Pep Guardiola’s side moved to fourth on the standings after starting the day in eighth place.
“I learned everything from it [poor spell of form]. It is good to see me back scoring goals with a smile on my face and enjoying football. I want to keep going and adding to that. You never know what can happen. The aim is to stay in the top four”, Foden added.
