Manchester City striker Erling Haaland was furious at the decision to disallow his goal in the 1-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday.
The Norwegian machine missed the Premier League champions last two games after suffering an injury in the 4-0 win over Newcastle two weeks ago, and made the perfect return scoring the opener in the 12th minute, his 20th league goal of the season, after a nice lay-off from Belgian winger Jeremy Doku.
The 24-year old thought he had grabbed a second of the game, only to be denied by centre referee Jarred Gillett who adjudged the striker to have handled the ball in the buildup.
“It’s because he [Gillett] made the decision on the pitch, that it was a free kick”, an angry Haaland said after the match.
“I don’t think it is, it’s clearly a big mistake, but we are humans, we make mistakes. It’s a great goal and I don’t think it’s handball but what can we do, we won, I’m happy.”
Pep Guardiola’s side had several chances to increase their lead but a combination of poor finishing and brilliant goalkeeeping by Spurs number one- Guglielmo Vicario, kept the scoreline at just a goal difference as Spurs struggled to contain the champions attacking force.
