Inter Milan’s Farris shifts focus to UCL final after Serie A disappointment

Inter Milan assistant coach Massimiliano Farris has stated that the team must move on from their league title disappointment to focus on next week’s UCL final against PSG.

Farris,54, was in charge of the Nerazzurri’s final league match of the season against Como on Friday night in the absence of the suspended Simone Inzaghi.

Disappointment for Inter

Inter Milan headed into the final game of the season against Cesc Fabregas’ Como, needing to better Napoli’s result against Cagliari to win a second straight league title, with both matches holding simultaneously.

The UCL finalists broke the deadlock in the 21st minute when De Vrij headed home from a Hakan Calhanoglu’s corner-kick.

Legendary goalkeeper Pepe Reina, in his final professional appearance kept Como in the game with a superb save to deny Mehdi Taremi.

Reina was however sent off moments before halftime when he was given his marching orders after a VAR review for a last-man foul on Mehdi Taremi.

Joaquin Correa doubled the advantage later in the second half and despite getting the job done, Inzaghi’s men fell short of the title as Napoli secured a 2-0 win over Cagliari to secure the league.

What Farris said

“The mood is that of a team that has done its duty. It’s a shame because it’s been a long journey, and we’ve had to let the title slip away,” Farris told reporters.

“But we’re sportsmen, and we congratulate Napoli. Their players are very strong, and we wish them all the best.

But football gives you the immediate opportunity to go and chase a dream. This year, we’ve had an extraordinary Champions League campaign, and our desire and determination is to go and win this trophy”, he continued.

“We’re going to live for whatever happens. We have technical leaders who will guide the dressing room in trying to live this great dream.”

When is the UCL final?

The UEFA Champions final will take place on the 31st of May at the iconic stadium in Bayern Munich.

Inter Milan will lock horns with French champions Paris Saint Germain in a battle to determine Europe’s best club side for the 2024/25 season.
