Chuba Akpom has revealed he was thrilled with the ambition of Ipswich Town after completing a season-long loan move to the club on Sunday.
The 29-year-old secured a loan move to the Tractor Boys from Dutch side Ajax Amsterdam, ending a transfer saga that also involved Birmingham City.
Akpom, spent the latter part of the 2024-25 season on loan at Lille, with the French club declining the option to sign him permanently, and was subject of interest from both EFL Championship clubs who offered to acquire his services.
The striker will spend the entire 2025-26 campaign on loan with Ipswich Town, who have an obligation to sign him permanently for £7 million if they secure promotion to the EPL.
“I was really excited when I heard of the interest and I’m delighted to have joined a club with such big ambitions,” Chuba told TownTV.
“I watch a lot of football and have always thought Ipswich would suit my style, so this move makes perfect sense.
I have had lots of good experiences over the last few years, at Ajax and playing in the Champions League with Lille, and I feel like all of these have improved me as a player and helped me be the person I am now”, he continued.
“I’m here to do as much as I can do to help the team, in the changing room and on the pitch, and I’ll bring a winning mentality here.”
The Arsenal academy graduate makes a return to English football, after previous spells with Middlesbrough, Hull City and Nottingham Forest.
Akpom becomes the sixth signing of the summer for the Tractor Boys and could be set for his debut on Tuesday against Bromley in the Carabao Cup.
