Barcelona Femini are set to kick start the 2025/26 campaign with just 17-first team players due the financial woes surrounding the club.
The Spanish team have dominated in Spain and across Europe over recent years but are struggling for numbers ahead of the start of the 2025-26 season.
Jana Fernández is the latest player to depart the club as she joins Ellie Roebuck, Bruna Vilamala, Martina Fernandez and Fridolina Rolfö–who recently signed a 2-year-deal with Manchester United —in departing.
A host of young stars have also waved goodbye to the Catalan giants this summer.Laia Aleixandri has arrived back at the club on a free transfer but that has been it so far with regards to new signings. Barcelona have also seen a host of top stars leave over the last two seasons including high-profile players including Lucy Bronze, Keira Walsh and Mariona Caldentey.
The club have been forced to slim down the all-conquering women’s team due to their financial issues. LaLiga currently accounts for the budgets of the women’s teams along with the men’s side.
More problems may well be looming as Barcelona know they will need to start thinking about renewing the contracts of key players soon. Alexia Putellas, Caroline Graham Hansen, Mapi Leon, Claudia Pina, and Cata Coll are all out of contract in 2026
