John Stones has pulled out of the England squad as a preventive measure.
The Manchester City defender was expected to feature in England’s World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Serbia.
Contrastingly, national team manager Thomas Tuchel confirmed the setback during his press conference on Friday morning.
“Unfortunately, John Stones [has] just left,” revealed Tuchel.
“He came with minor muscle issues to camp and didn’t progress the way we thought and hoped he would. So he left camp this morning because we will not take the risk against Andorra and also unfortunately against Serbia.”
Stones will now return to Etihad Stadium to recover, with England adjusting their defensive options ahead of two crucial qualifiers.
