Gianluigi Donnarumma is ready to test his abilities in the ‘best league in the world’, after sealing a move to former Premier League champions Manchester City on transfer deadline day.
Despite playing an instrumental role in PSG’s historic treble-winning campaign last season, the Italian shot-stopper was deemed surplus to requirements by Luis Enrique.
The 26-year-old was told to search for a new club following the arrival of French goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier at the European champions, before joining the Cityzens in a €30 million deal on deadline day.
Speaking after his first full training session as a City player, Donnarumma revealed he is ready to embrace the challenge of playing against some of the biggest talents in the world.
“It’s] a new chapter in my life and my career. Playing in the Premier League with Manchester City is a great emotion for me and I’m ready for this challenge”, Donnarumma said.
“I’ve always dreamt about playing in the Premier League as it’s the best league in the world. For a player, I think achieving in the Premier League is the maximum for his career, therefore I’m really happy to be here.
“I’m willing to take to the pitch for this club, who has been trying so much to sign me and I hope I can pay that trust back.”
The Italian goalkeeper could make his debut in the Manchester derby on Sunday, with Ederson already out of the club and a less than convincing start by James Trafford.
“I won a lot in my career so I will always be thankful to [previous clubs] for everything they gave me,” Donnarumma added.
“However, I am fully focused on my new challenge here now to make history here and become a symbol for the city and for the club.
“But most of all to make the fans proud and win a lot of trophies together as it’s an historic club and deserves to be as high as possible”, the 26-year-old continued.
Manchester City host neighbors Manchester United at the Etihad on Sunday, hoping to bounce back from a poor start to the season.
