Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has revealed that he will not alter his approach despite seeing his side suffer another crushing defeat in the Manchester derby on Sunday.
A 3-0 defeat to neighbors Manchester City on Sunday afternoon, increased the pressure on the Portuguese and means that the Red Devils have not won consecutive league games since he took over last November.
The 40-year-old has often been criticized for his rigid 3-4-2-1 formation, which often leaves the team very exposed, but has insisted that he will stick to his philosophy.
“Guys, I understand that and I accept it. So it’s not a record that you should have in Manchester United”, Amorim said after the match.
“There are a lot of things that you have no idea what happened during these months, but I accept that. But I’m not going to change. When I want to change my philosophy, I will change. If not, you have to change the man.”
Phil Foden opened the scoring with a superb header, following good work in the buildup by Jeremy Doku, to put City ahead in the first half.
Erling Haaland continued his goalscoring brilliance against Man United with a second for the hosts after the break, piling more pressure on Amorim.
The Norwegian striker added a third in the 68th minute, running half the length of the pitch to score his eighth career goal against the Red Devils.
Manchester United have now endured their worst start to a Premier League season in 33 years, while Ruben Amorim has won only eight of his 31 games in charge of the club.
“The record says everything. So I understand. My message is that I’m going to give everything. I will do everything, always thinking about what is best for the club”, he continued.
“That was always the same message. And then it’s not my decision, the rest. So until I’m here, I will do my best. I really want to win games. So I’m suffering more than them.”
Manchester United play host to Chelsea next Saturday, although it remains unknown whether Amorim would be the man on the touchlines for the must-win clash.
