Amorim hails Man United’s maturity in Sunderland victory

Manchester United marked Ruben Amorim’s 50th game in charge with a confident 2-0 win over Sunderland at Old Trafford. Goals from Mason Mount and Benjamin Sesko sealed the points, while debutant goalkeeper Senne Lammens impressed with a clean sheet.

Mount opened the scoring with a composed finish before Sesko doubled the lead with clinical precision. Sunderland goalkeeper Robin Roefs kept the margin down with key saves, but Lammens also stood tall, producing vital stops in both halves to help United record their first shutout of the season.

“Of course it’s so much better to win games,” Amorim praised his side’s maturity after the match. “We were a team that were an adult team. We didn’t play well all the game, but we had our moments and we defended well.

“I think Senne did a great job and gave us confidence. It was a good day, not a perfect day, but to win like this with a clean sheet is important for our team.”

He added: “We need to understand that we need everyone to be ready to play. It’s a long season, we have a lot of problems, anything can happen. The important thing is that the teammates helped Lammens a lot to have a very good performance.

“Every team, especially the big teams, need to win every game at home, but we need to perform the same way at home and away.”

He continued: “It’s not just the way he attacks, but the way he defends. He runs forward a lot and he’s always a threat when he has the ball one against one. We are really pleased with him and we missed him a lot last game, so he did really well.

“We have to forget that game. Of course it’s really important to win games and have a better feeling but we need to forget this game and go for the next one, so tomorrow we just forget about everything. We need to win the next one.”

The win lifts United’s confidence after a shaky start, with Amorim determined to build momentum heading into the next run of fixtures.
