Former Super Eagles manager and ex-Borussia Dortmund star, Sunday Oliseh, has issued a grave warning to Nigerian football authorities.
The former Nigeria international has weighed in on the high stakes of Nigeria’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
As the Super Eagles remain in a precarious fifth position in a six-team group, Oliseh expressed his deep concerns ahead of their next match against the Wasps of Rwanda, stressing the potential fallout if Nigeria fails to secure a spot at the global tournament.
Oliseh pointed out that this World Cup presents a unique opportunity for African representation, with up to 10 African teams eligible to participate.
Reflecting on the gravity of the situation, Oliseh shared his perspective with SuperSport TV: “Africa could be represented by as many as 10 countries at the next World Cup, but Nigeria risks missing out, which would be nothing short of a disaster.”
Drawing from his own recent experience, Oliseh recalled the disappointment he felt while attending the 2022 World Cup in Qatar as a member of FIFA’s Technical Study Group: “Spending six weeks in Qatar without Nigeria present was painful,” he remarked.
With the Super Eagles now facing critical matches, they will be aiming to secure a place in the competition after missing out in the last tournament.
