Chelsea legend Frank Lampard set to make coaching return to English club

Chelsea legend Frank Lampard is set to become the new coach of English Championship club Coventry City.

Despite retiring as one of the greatest midfielders to ever grace the pitch, Lampard has endured a largely unsuccessful start to his coaching career. After retiring in 2017, the former England international started his coaching career at Chelsea as a youth coach, but he moved on to Championahip club Derby County in 2018.

There, he impressed, prompting Chelsea to acquire his services after just one season at Derby. Unfortunately for him, he did not last on the job, as he was sacked just six months later after a poor run of results.

Lampard then moved on to Everton in 2022. At the time, the Toffees were battling to stay alive in the Premier League, and he helped them in their relegation fight. However, he failed to improve the team in his second season, and he got sacked.

After his failed stint at Everton, Lampard returned to Chelsea in 2023 as an interim coach for the last two months of the season.

Since that stint, the 46-year-old tactician has been out of job. There were links to Saudi Arabia and the Scottish Premiership, but none of those yielded fruits.

However, it now seems the Chelsea legend is set to make his return to management. This is as Transfer News Live reports that Lampard has agreed to take over the coaching role at Coventry City.

The club recently confirmed the sacking of long-serving coach Mark Robins after picking just four wins from their first 15 games. And Lampard is in pole position to get the job.

The deal is supposed to be completed in the coming days once Lampard and Coventry agree on all the details.
