Ipswich boss McKenna fancies team’s chances against Manchester United

Ipswich Town head coach Kieran McKenna has expressed confidence in his side’s ability as they prepare to host Manchester United in the English Premier League this weekend.

Speaking ahead of the game at Portman Road, the 38-year old has expressed confidence in his side and expects them to pull off an upset when they battle the Red devils who will have new manager Ruben Amorim in charge for the first time.

“Sunday, what a game. It’s one we’re really, really looking forward to, I have to say.

“Not on a personal connection because I’ve been at Man United, but as manager of Ipswich Town Football Club, to be on that stage, it’s what we’ve worked so hard for over the last couple of years”, he said.

McKenna who returns to Manchester United after leaving the U-18s in December 2021, expects his side to make things difficult for Manchester United’s new boss.

“It’s the biggest game in world football anywhere this weekend, the biggest game in the world in the biggest sport in the world and it’s at Portman Road. It’s in Ipswich and there’s nothing that could make me more proud than that, really”.

The young coach has led Ipswich Town to successive promotions from the English League Two to the EFL Championship and back to the Premier League after 22 years away.

“We’re really, really looking forward to it, it’s going to be a helluva game, I think.

Obviously, on the global stage, the narrative and when you’re playing Man United and they’ve got a new manager, that’s world news and that’s going to be the global version of it and so much of it is going to be built up around that”, he continued.

The Tractor Boys will be hoping to spoil Ruben Amorim’s debut and secure a second league win of the season after pulling off a shock 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur last time out.
