Premier League giants Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal will be on high alert, following reports that Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi is now open to a potential exit from the La Liga side in 2025.
The Spanish midfielder turned down an approach from current Premier League leaders Liverpool last summer as he felt it was not the right time to leave his current club.
Manchester City and Arsenal have since joined the race for the Spaniard’s signature, and according to The Athletic, the 25-year-old is now considering a future away from Sociedad.
Zubimendi’s willingness to move in 2025 is attributed to his desire to give Sociedad ample time to prepare for his departure, ensuring a smooth transition for both parties.
A summer transfer appears more likely than a move in January, with Zubimendi recently stating he is not focusing on transfer speculation ahead of the winter window.
Nevertheless, City could potentially try to lure the Spain international over to Manchester at the turn of the year, having recently struggled badly in the absence of injured Rodri, who is set to spend the rest of this current campaign on the sidelines.
The 2024 European Championships winner with Spain is currently on a contract which runs until 2027. The contract agreement includes a €60m (£49.7m) release clause, which any interested club may have to activate to secure his services.
Real Sociedad on their part, are reportedly open to selling Zubimendi for the right price. Club president Jokin Aperribay is keen to demonstrate that the club can serve as a reliable stepping stone to Europe’s biggest teams.
