Ancelotti remains confident about Real Madrid’s prospects despite criticism

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has expressed confidence in his side’s ability and has said he is happy with their performances despite a relatively slow start to the season.

Los Blancos sit second in the Spanish Laliga with four points behind league leaders Barcelona although they have a game in hand while they are 24th in the UEFA Champions League with three games to go.

Speaking in a press conference, Ancelotti said, “I have to accept the criticism because the team is not at its best.

As is always the case in football, the coach is the most responsible and that is where the criticism falls. That said, I think I am getting too much criticism, which could mean that you [the media] are tired of me.”

The Italian has dismissed the idea that they cannot compete for trophies this season and has insisted that he is pleased with the team despite criticism from all areas.

“Like I say, the criticism is understandable, but there are parts of it which annoy me. It can affect you, especially when the dig affects a person’s identity.”

They were unable to close the gap to the league leaders on Wednesday when they lost 2-1 at Athletic Bilbao with talisman Kylian Mbappe missing a second penalty kick in three games.

“But we have to be optimistic because we have a quality squad. We have not been able to find our best form, but I am convinced we will sooner or later. My level of concern is medium”, he continued.

Real Madrid prepare to face Girona on Saturday night football in the Spanish Laliga while they travel to Italy to face Atalanta in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.
