Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany has reiterated that his side remains focused on their next match despite the defeat to Bundesliga Champions Bayer Leverkusen in the German cup on Tuesday.
A Nathan Tella 69th minute strike was enough as Xabi Alonso’s side progressed to the quarter finals of the DFB Pokal at the expense of the Bavarians who had goalkeeper Manuel Neuer sent off in the 17th minute of the encounter.
Vincent Kompany side are four points clear of second-placed Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga and face relegation threatened Heidenheim who are currently 16th on Saturday.
“It’s always about how you are as a person. It’s never been the case that I’ve sensed negativity on the day after a game. From Wednesday the only important thing was Heidenheim”, the Belgian said.
The midweek defeat means they are winless in their last two games after they were also held to a 1-1 draw by Borussia Dortmund last weekend.
“We’re first in the Bundesliga and want to stay there. I put all my energy in that and don’t look back on what you can’t change anymore.”
Bayern are expected to be without England forward Harry Kane and Portugal international Joao Palhinha for the game due to injury.
“You have to go back in time six months and look at where we were. No one would have imagined that we would be in this situation now”, he added.
“The fact that we are in this position that makes us expect the best again is a good sign. I am now thinking about Heidenheim, so I am not thinking about the past.”
