Leicester City manager Ruud van Nistelrooy has confirmed that midfielder Wilfred Ndidi will be sidelined for a couple of weeks due to a hamstring injury.
Ndidi picked up the injury during last weekend’s 2-2 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion, forcing him to leave the pitch prematurely. The 27-year-old will miss Leicester’s upcoming match against Newcastle United on Saturday as he begins his recovery.
Speaking to the club’s official website on Thursday, van Nistelrooy provided an update on Ndidi’s condition, stating that the Nigerian international is likely to miss a couple of weeks.
“He has a hamstring injury, so he’s not available for Saturday’s game. We’re looking at his progress and how he will react to the injury, but it looks like it’s at least a couple of weeks.”
This injury adds to Leicester’s midfield concerns as the festive fixture schedule intensifies. With Ndidi unavailable, the Foxes will also have to manage the absence of another key player, Boubakary Soumare who is set to serve a one-match suspension.
The former Manchester United forward acknowledged the challenges ahead but expressed confidence in his squad’s depth with the contributions of players like Oliver Skipp. Skipp recently played a vital role in Leicester’s dramatic late comeback against Brighton, where he displayed his ability to step up when needed.
