Southampton’s Juric relishes opportunity to revive team’s season

Newly-appointed Southampton manager Ivan Juric, is unfazed by the challenge of saving the Saints’ season and is confident he can keep the team in the English top flight at the end of the season.

The former AS Roma manager who was in the stands in the goalless draw against Fulham at the Craven Cottage on Sunday, said he plans to introduce an aggressive style of play which will be key in avoiding relegation when the season comes to an end.

“The guys have to be motivated to do something that has never been done”, Juric said.

“We can do something exceptional. Nobody has stayed in the Premier League from this situation. There are a lot of good players, I’m really optimistic.”

The 49-year old replaced Martin Russell who was sacked after an embarrassing 5-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur at the St Marys earlier this month, will be tasked with saving the team’s season after a dismal start which has seen them claim just seven points in 17 league matches.

“I’m not a golf man, it’s not the game for me … I’m a little more aggressive. Now it’s important to work hard and understand everything that has happened”, he continued.

When I was young I liked death metal music a lot and it’s something my style of football is a lot like. It is a high-pressing style.”

The Croatian football manager will be in charge for his first game in the English Premier League as Southampton play host to West Ham United on Boxing day, hoping to kickstart his tenure with a victory.
