Dele-Bashiru: Former Atalanta boss lauds Nigerian Midfielder’s versatility

Former Atalanta manager Angelo Gregucci, has showered praises on Nigerian midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru for his ability to play in multiple roles.

The 23-year old’s versatility is a key part of his game and he is comfortable playing as an attacking midfielder, while he can also be deployed on the wings or as a box-to-box midfielder.

The Super Eagles international joined from Turkish side Hatayspor in the summer and he has been a bright spot for Marco Baroni’s side, contributing four goals and two assists in all competitions this season as they challenge for the Italian Serie A.

He has been primarily deployed as an attacking midfielder, contributing a goal to cap off an impressive performance in the 1-1 draw against high-flying Atalanta in December 2024. In Lazio’s first league game of the year, a 1-1 draw against newly-promoted Como, the Nigerian was deployed as a left winger and he dazzled in the position, causing havoc for Cesc Fabregas’ side.

Despite not being among the goals, the former Hatayspor man registered one key pass, three duels won, two shots blocked, two successful dribbles, two fouls committed, and one tackle to seal an impressive night.

“It can be repeated. For him (Dele-Bashiru), it makes little difference whether he plays as an attacking midfielder or a winger,” Gregucci said, as quoted by La Lazio Siamo Noi.

Fisayo Dele-Bashiru will hope to continue his excellent club form, either as a utility midfield player or on the flanks, when Lazio travel to face Verona in the Serie A on Sunday.
