Arsenal have confirmed that Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus sustained an ACL injury during their FA Cup loss to Manchester United on Sunday.
Jesus was stretchered off in the first half, prompting immediate concern in the Gunners’ dug-out due to the severity of his pain. Manager Mikel Arteta later described the injury as a “big worry.”
Speculation about an ACL injury soon emerged and Arsenal have now come out to officially confirm the diagnosis.
“Further to being substituted during our match with Manchester United on Sunday, Gabriel Jesus has received extensive assessments, scans and specialist reviews which have confirmed that he has sustained an injury to the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee,” a club statement read.
“Gabby will undergo surgery in the coming days and will soon begin his recovery and rehabilitation programme.
“We will continue to keep everyone updated with Gabby’s recovery, with everyone at the club fully focused on supporting Gabby to ensure he is back to full fitness as soon as possible.”
Arsenal have not provided a specific timeline for the Brazilian striker’s recovery, but anterior cruciate ligament injuries typically require approximately nine months of rehabilitation, ultimately ruling him out until late 2025.
This latest setback sees Jesus join Gunners attacking duo Bukayo Saka and Ethan Nwaneri on the treatment table. Although, both players are slated for a significantly shorter spell on the sidelines.
Arsenal may need to explore striking options in the January transfer window and significantly impacts reported plans to sell the Brazilian in the summer. Jesus remains under contract with the club until 2027.
