Real Madrid are reportedly considering a move for former academy defender Miguel Gutierrez as an alternative for long-time target Alphonso Davies after news of the Canadian’s imminent contract extension with Bayern Munich recently broke yesterday.
Davies is said to be on the verge of renewing terms with the Bavarians, following massive progress in negotiations between the defender’s agent and the club with an agreement expected to be reached within the next few days.
As a result, Madrid will now have to look for reinforcement solutions elsewhere and reports have emerged as per The Athletic that the reigning La Liga and Champions League kings have turned their attention to Girona’s Gutierrez.
Gutierrez, a product of the Los Blancos academy, made ten senior appearances for the first team before sealing a permanent move to Girona in the summer of 2022. The Spaniard has since gone on to establish himself as one of the best left-backs in La Liga.
Real Madrid have been keenly monitoring Gutierrez’s progress at Girona and the Spanish giants are thought to be really impressed with his ability to make significant contributions on both ends of the pitch.
One key factor that will make a move for Gutierrez very straightforward is Madrid’s inclusion of a buy-back clause, which stands at €8 million, in the deal when they sold him to Girona three years ago.
Gutierrez’s addition will no doubt be a smart piece of business for Real Madrid if they can get it done. The 23-year-old would bolster a heavily depleted back line and provide an extra bit of attacking impetus down the left flank for Carlo Ancelloti’s side.
