RB Leipzig’s managing director, Marcel Schäfer, has shut down speculations about Arsenal being in talks for Benjamin Sesko.
Reports as per talkSPORT revealed on Wednesday that Mikel Arteta had received green light press ahead with a big-money deal for the striker this month.
Benjamin Sesko was at the top of Arsenal’s summer transfer target list last summer and that interest has since been rekindled. However, a January move may be off the table as RB Leipzig head coach, Marcel Sabitzer has debunked reports linking the 21-year old away from the club. The report adds the Bundesliga team are reluctant to sell the £70 million-rated ($86m) forward this month, even though they are now out of the Champions League.
With Gabriel Jesus’ out of action with an ACL injury which will keep him sidelined for the rest of the season, it appears getting the 21-year-old, who has scored in five straight Bundesliga games, may be off the table – especially due to his price tag, contract length (expires in 2029), and Marcel’s latest comment.
While Arsenal may still try and sign a new striker in January, they return to action on Wednesday when they face Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League as they aim to ensure their place as a seeded team in the last 16.
