Lazio manager Marco Baroni has stated that Super Eagles midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru is a doubt for tonight’s Europa League quarter final second leg clash against Viktoria Plzen.
The 24-year old last featured for the Biancocelesti in a goalless draw against Venezia last month in the Italian Serie A, and missed the 2-1 win over Thursday’s opponent last week in the first leg of their Round of 16 encounter.
“Dele is still feeling a little discomfort. I have to talk to him because I want him to be calm when he goes out on the pitch. He still has pain in his ankle,” Baroni stated during the prematch conference before the match.
The Nigerian midfielder who was named on the bench in Monday’s 1-1 draw against Udinese after missing three consecutive matches, was left out of Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle’s 23-man squad for this month’s FIFA World Cup qualifiers, a decision his coach attributed to his fitness problems.
Dele-Bashiru has scored five goals and two assists in 23 appearances for the club amid an injury-troubled campaign, and will hope to be fit in time to feature in the crucial Europa League encounter later tonight.
