Barcelona and Osasuna to appeal new date for postponed La Liga fixture

Barcelona’s postponed La Liga match against Osasuna earlier this month has been rescheduled for March 27, the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) confirmed on Monday.

The game was initially set to take place on matchday 27 but Barcelona suddenly requested a postponement barely hours before kick-off, following the passing of club doctor Carles Minarro Garcia.

With the new date set by RFEF, the game will now be played after the upcoming international break, although both Barcelona and Osasuna are expected to appeal the decision due to the potential absence of key players.

The Blaugrana will be without star man and team captain Raphinha as well as key defender Ronald Araujo, who will be on international duty for Brazil and Uruguay in 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Brazil face Colombia on March 21 before taking on Argentina five days later, making Raphinha’s return in time for the match unlikely. Similarly, Uruguay will play Argentina and Bolivia, with Araujo also unlikely to return in time for the Osasuna clash.

On their part, Osasuna will be missing Cameroonian defender Enzo Boyomo, who will be in action for the Indomitable Lions against Eswatini and Libya, with the latter match scheduled for March 25.

The rescheduling will also impact Osasuna’s LaLiga fixture against Athletic Bilbao, which is set for the following day at San Mamés. Barcelona, meanwhile, is set to face Girona on March 30.

The preferred alternative date for the Osasuna clash is reportedly May 21, between the penultimate and final rounds of the LaLiga season. However, that will depend on the Blaugrana’s progress in the Champions League and Copa del Rey.
