Lobi Stars head coach Eugene Bulus is confident his side can maintain their status in the top flight of the Nigerian league despite their season struggles.
The Makurdi-based side have endured a disappointing campaign so far and are in danger of dropping down to the second division after a torrid season.
They are currently rooted to the bottom of the Nigerian Premier Football League standings, with just 23 points and are nine points off Sunshine Stars in 19th position.
Speaking after Wednesday’s 2-0 defeat at Abia Warriors, which further dented their survival hopes, head coach Bulus expressed optimism at their chances of avoiding relegation, stating that the team will fight for their chances.
We are giving our best in every game, and you can see that the boys are not playing badly,” he said.
“You may think we are destined for relegation, but that’s just an opinion. We believe survival is possible because nothing is impossible.”
Lobi Stars have won just five matches all season, drawing eight while they have been beaten 17 times. They are without a win in their last 13 league matches, picking up just four points in the process.
The 1999 Nigerian league champions have scored the least goals in the league this season, while they also have the second-worst defence, only behind Sunshine Stars.
The Pride of Benue who are without a win in the league this year, need to win their remaining eight league matches of the season to get a shot at redemption and salvage their season.
