Manchester United are reportedly keen on signing Wolves star Matheus Cunha this summer but will face competition from league rivals Newcastle.
According to the Daily Mail, United need to activate the Brazilian’s £62.5 million ($83m) release clause and are hopeful of agreeing terms in May. Newcastle are also said to be interested in the 25-year-old but he may have been swayed by the prospect of joining the Red Devils instead.
United’s attack has struggled for goals this season, suffering a dismissal run in form since the start of the season, and while Cunha may bring some depth to their attack, Ruben Amorim’s team clearly needs an out-and-out striker to solve that sizable problem.
The report adds that if the Premier League giants signed the former Atletico Madrid man, they would be able to stay in line with the division’s profit and sustainability rules as well but player exits may be needed to fuel other transfer moves.
United are also interested in Ipswich Town’s striker Liam Delap this summer but face increasing competition from Chelsea to sign the 22-year-old, who is said to have a £30m ($40m) release clause.
Before then, United travel to Bournemouth in the Premier League on Sunday, while Wolves – who beat Amorim’s team 1-0 at Old Trafford – host Leicester City a day before.
