Former Besiktas forward Nihat Kahveci has praised Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen’s performance at Turkish side Galatasaray, believing he deserves all the hype he gets.
Osimhen’s impact in Turkey
The 26-year old joined the Turkish giants last summer on a season-long loan move from Italian outfits Napoli, after talks of a move to Chelsea and Saudi Arabia fell through.
Despite initially struggling to adapt, Osimhen has found his feet at the club, with 39 goal contributions- 31 goals and eight assists in 36 matches in all competitions.
His incredible form has put the club on course for a league and cup double, currently in the final of the Turkish cup while they are five points ahead of second-placed Fenerbahce, with five games remaining.
What Kahveci said:
In quotes relayed by habersarikirmizi.com, he said: “If we were to write 4 pages about Osimhen in the newspaper, he deserves it. He is a great football player.
If the league ends and Galatasaray wins the cup, Osimhen is the name that will be written about immediately. He played incredibly.”
The 45-year old also emphasized the importance of the Nigerian international signing and the impact it has given to the league.
“Especially in the 1.5-2 month period, he single-handedly took Galatasaray on his back and carried them, and Galatasaray is the leader with a 5 point difference thanks to Osimhen”, Kahveci added.
“If it weren’t for Osimhen, we could have seen a completely different picture.”
What next for Osimhen?
Osimhen has been subject of transfer interest from the top European clubs in the world, with the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool all interested in securing his services.
With his loan deal at Galatasaray set to expire at the end of the season and financial constraints making it nearly impossible for the club to retain his services, the former Lille forward is set for the next big move in his career next summer.
