De Bruyne open to Premier League stay after Man City departure

Manchester City captain Kevin De Bruyne has refused to rule out a stay in England when his contract expires at the end of the season.

The Belgian playmaker will leave the former Premier League champions after ten trophy-laden years, when his contract runs out at the end of the campaign.

What De Bruyne said

Speaking after Saturday’s 1-0 loss to Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final at Wembley, the City captain provided update on his future.

He said: “I want to play good football you know, whatever the decision will be,” De Bruyne said after being asked if he is still hungry to play in the Premier League.

I know you are trying to guess where I am going to go, but I will make my decision and you guys will know when I know.”

The 33-year old was part of the 2020-21 treble-winning campaign while he also played a key role in the Cityzens league title four-peat.

“I don’t know [If I would like to stay in the Premier League], it depends on who comes. Like I said to my Belgian colleagues, I have a family and I have young kids”, he continued.

“I have to take a decision that works for all of us, not just me. When I was 20 years old and all by myself, I could make a decision, and it would be easy, but now it is a bit more complex.”

Arguably the greatest midfielder in the league’s history, De Bruyne will be a great addition to any team he joins in the summer.

Although his age and recent injury troubles could limit his options, the former Wolfsburg playmaker has been linked with moves to Liverpool, Napoli, Saudi Arabia and the Major League Soccer.

The 33-year old will look to finish the season in a top-five position with Man City, before discussing the next chapter in his career in the summer.
