Freshly minted Brazil national team manager Carlo Ancelotti has picked one of Brazil’s greatest ever footballers as his favourite Selecao star of all time, revealing that “he’s one of the most fun people in the world.”
What happened?
Fresh off a successful second stint as Real Madrid manager, Ancelotti is now tasked with leading Brazil to glory in the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup set to be hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada.
Ancelotti’s first days as manager of the Brazilian national team was understandably dominated by media attention but the Italian boss has wasted no time in discharging his managerial duties, having already made his maiden squad announcement.
In one of his media rounds, Ancelotti was asked during a quick-fire Q&A with Globo Esporte about the Brazilian players he had managed at club level and which one of them stood out as his favourite.

What did Ancelloti say?
“Ronaldo (Nazário),” Ancelotti replied, having coached the phenomenal striker during the latter years of his career at AC Milan.
“Technically, he was spectacular and he’s one of the most fun people in the world.”
Aside from El Fenómeno, Ancelotti also spoke fondly about a number of other Brazilian players including Real Madrid duo Vinicius Jr and Eder Militao.
“The most professional? Cafú,” Ancelotti continued “The most fun? There’s been many that make me laugh, [Éder] Militão makes me laugh a lot.
“Viní [Vinícius Júnior] as well. Viní, for example, is very humble, a very, very humble kid. But with all of them [Brazilian players] I have a great relationship to this day.”
“Brazilian players have a higher technical level than others. They’re players that handle themselves really well and are very relaxed and humble,” Ancelotti concluded.
What next?
Ancelotti will start his reign as the manager of one of the most exciting footballing nations on the international scene when Brazil take the pitch to face Ecuador in the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifiers on June 5.
