The United States men’s national team head coach Mauricio Pochettino has ruled out any possibility of returning to his former stomping ground Tottenham Hotspur amid growing speculations linking his name with the now vacant position.
Why do Tottenham need a new manager?
Tottenham Hotspur are in search of a new manager after parting ways with their UEFA Europa League winning head coach Ange Postecoglou just over two weeks after ending the London club’s 17-year wait for a trophy.
Despite Postecoglou’s remarkable triumph in Europe which also guarantees a place in next season’s UEFA Champions League, Spur’s abysmal 17th place finish in the Premier League just proved too difficult to overlook in the end.
According to reports, Brentford manager is thought to be the leading candidate to replace Postecoglou. However, Pochettino, who is now in charge of the USMNT has also been linked with a return to North London.

What did Mauricio Pochettino say about the rumours?
“[Right now], it’s not realistic,” said Pochettino, after the USA’s 2-1 defeat to Turkiye. “Look where I am. Look where we [his backroom staff] are. The answer is so clear.
“I think, since I left in 2019, my name has always been on the list [of rumours]. I’ve seen the rumours; we are 100 coaches on the list. Don’t be worried about that.
“If something happens [in the future], you for sure will see, but I am so happy in this moment, and we cannot talk about this type of thing.”
How did Mauricio Pochettino perform as Tottenham manager?
Mauricio Pochettino spent five and a half years at Tottenham from 2014 to 2019, overseeing 293 matches and recording 159 wins, 62 draws, and 72 losses.
During his time on the job, he guided Spurs to the Champions League final in 2019, where they lost to Liverpool, and the EFL Cup final in 2015, where they were defeated by Manchester City.
