Arda Guler sends warning to Real Madrid amid limited game time

Highly rated Real Madrid youngster Arda Guler has admitted that he may be forced to reconsider his future at the Santiago Bernabeu if his current lack of first-team opportunities continues under the reign of freshly minted boss Xabi Alonso.

Guler enjoyed his breakthrough while on the books of Turkish Super Lig giants Fenerbahce, turning heads all over Europe before eventually deciding to pitch his tent with the 15-time UEFA Champions League winners.

However, Guler’s time at the Spanish capital hasn’t gone according to plan so far. The young Turk has spent two full seasons at the Santiago Bernabeu but he has yet to become a regular feature for Los Blancos.

During Carlo Ancelotti’s two-year reign, Guler played only a fringe role within the squad. Although already an established international, he clocked 373 minutes in his first year and then improved that tally to 1,249 last term.

Despite his increased involvement last season, there’s no disputing that Ancelotti still underutilized the 20-year-old attacking midfielder, especially given the talent he possesses.

With Ancelloti gone and Real Madrid now under the tutelage of Alonso, Guler is understandably hoping for a change in fortunes or else, he may have to consider furthering his career away from the Santiago Bernabeu.

“I feel good with him because he likes to control the tempo, he wants more short passes, and he sees me as a midfielder, and that’s better for me,” he told MARCA.

“For now, I haven’t thought about leaving, but of course, if I don’t play, I’ll think about everything, but for now, I’m completely focused on Real Madrid.”

Guler managed 13 goal contributions (5G, 8A) for Real Madrid despite getting limited opportunities last season. Judging by this, a more improved role within the team could prove very beneficial for all parties.
