Barcelona outcast Ansu Fati has expressed gratitude to the Catalan giants after completing a loan move to Ligue 1 side Monaco ahead of the upcoming season.
Fati burst onto the scene as an exciting young talent from Barcelona’s famous La Masia. The Spaniard was considered Barca’s ‘new Messi’ after inheriting the Mercurial Argentine’s number 10 jersey.
However, a string of injuries and reduced first-team opportunities dimmed Fati’s shine at the Nou Camp, turning the once-electric winger into a shadow of himself and pushing him to the fringes.
Fati’s unsuccessful loan spell at Brighton and Hove Albion did little to strengthen his case at Barcelona, and the 22-year-old attacker will now join French Ligue 1 side Monaco on loan for the 25/26 season.
Speaking to the media after his unveiling as a Monaco player, the loanee sent a warm message to his boyhood club before going on to reveal his expectations for life at the Stade Louis II.
“I’ll always be grateful to Barca, [but] I sincerely believe that changes are for the better. Of course, I’ll be [at Monaco] this season, but I’ll always be grateful to Barca,” Fati said.
“I had my experience at Brighton, many think it was bad, but it was a great experience. I started well, then I got injured and lacked consistency. Hopefully things will be different here, and I can have continuity and be involved a lot if the coach sees fit.”
Going into next season, Fati will be looking to stamp his mark in the French top flight and help Monaco to seriously challenge Paris Saint-Germain at the summit of Ligue 1.
Asides Fati, the principality club has made a couple of other big additions including former Juventus and Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba as well as former Bayern Munich defender Eric Dier.
