Gabriel Magalhaes optimistic about Arsenal’s title prospects

Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes believes the club can end their trophy drought in the coming season.

Gabriel, 27, was subject of transfer rumors linking him with a move to Saudi Arabia at the end of last season, although he has since signed a contract extension.

The Brazilian defender penned a new long term deal that keeps him at the Emirates until 2029, and is confident the club is closer to a title win next season than in previous campaigns.

“I didn’t hear about anything personally, I didn’t receive offers. A lot of people like to say things on the internet. I am focused on Arsenal. That is why I signed the contract that I signed and I am focused on the club”, Gabriel revealed.

“I’ve been at the club for five years now and I’ve seen how much the club has grown. I am here to win big titles and I do believe that this season will be different. We have let a couple of titles slip through our fingers recently. We almost won but I think this year, things will be different. I have a lot of faith in that.”

The Gunners have endured disappointment in the past three campaigns, twice finishing second behind Manchester City before a second-placed finish behind Liverpool in the 2024-25 league season.

“I only have one thing to say, and Mikel says it: We are ready to reach new heights this season.

I don’t think we can give excuses; we did everything we could in the last three years. I feel like we had a little bit of bad luck sometimes, but we all believe that we can win big titles”, the 27-year-old continued.

“The preseason has started. We’re focused on what our manager is telling us to do, and what we have to do, and what we have to improve. I think this year will be different.”

Arsenal have already added Kepa Arrizabalaga, Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard and Noni Madueke to their squad, with talks continuing over a move for both Victor Gyokeres and Cristhian Mosquera.

The Gunners face AC Milan and Newcastle United in preseason fixtures in Singapore before heading to Hong Kong to face Tottenham Hotspur.
