Liverpool have reached an agreement to sign Parma’s highly rated centre-back Giovanni Leoni in a deal worth £26m plus add-ons.
The agreement was finalised late on Wednesday, with Leoni now set to travel to Merseyside to complete personal terms and undergo his medical on Thursday.
The 18-year-old was a top target for elite clubs in Italy and the Premier League. However, his decision was clear. He wanted to join Arne Slot’s side.
The Italian will link up with the first-team squad immediately for the new season, with no plans for a loan move.
Reds have been seeking defensive reinforcements, especially with Ibrahima Konate entering the final year of his contract at Anfield.
