Liverpool and Manchester United set to lock horns for the signature of Premier League striker

Brighton and Hove Albion center-forward Joao Pedro reportedly has two of English football’s biggest clubs in Liverpool and Manchester United rivalling each other to land his signature next summer.

The Reds are reportedly preparing to open talks with Brighton & Hove Albion regarding a deal for the 23-year-old forward. Meanwhile, Manchester United, long-time admirers of the player, are believed to maintain their interest despite the appointment of a new head coach.

Pedro has been impressive for Brighton this season, registering four goals and three assists in nine matches so far. His performances have helped propel the Seagulls into contention for European qualification, currently sitting seventh, just three points behind struggling champions Manchester City in fourth place.

According to UOL Esporte, the Brazilian international’s impressive form has made him a key transfer target for the current Premier League leaders ahead of the 2025/2026 season. The Reds are reportedly planning to initiate talks during the January transfer window, aiming to secure a deal that would see Pedro join Anfield at the end of the campaign.

Pedro’s style of play, which sees him drop deep to help in the build-up, perfectly suits Arne Slot’s tactics at Liverpool. The Dutchman is yet to settle for a first-choice striker, with Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota and Luiz Diaz all spear-heading Liverpool’s attack at some point this season.

Liverpool’s interest in Pedro dates back to 2019 when they reportedly attempted to sign him from Fluminense before his move to Watford. Concerns within the club about signing players directly from South America led to internal disagreements, ultimately derailing the deal.

Now, after Pedro’s impressive development at Brighton, the Reds seem prepared to reignite their pursuit of the forward.
