Liverpool FC have been honoured for its remarkable strides in sustainability, securing 36 GOAL (Green Operations and Advanced Leadership) medals at the 2025 GOAL Medal Awards.
The achievement marks a 200 per cent increase from the 12 medals the club collected last year, reflecting significant progress in environmental responsibility and community engagement.
Among the accolades were nine gold medals, awarded for energy, waste, wellness, nutrition, diversity, strategy, community, engagement and partnerships. The Reds also earned a silver medal in the water category.
GOAL is a global network dedicated to sustainability in sports and entertainment venues, with more than 75 members worldwide. Its Medal Awards benchmark progress across ten ESG areas, providing recognition for measurable impact.
Liverpool’s progress stems from its award-winning strategy, The Red Way, which continues to shape how the club operates. Over the past year, 96 per cent of all energy used at club sites has come from renewable or low-carbon sources.
The club has also offset emissions from domestic flights through sustainable aviation fuel and made Anfield’s pitch fully recyclable.
“I’m incredibly proud that we have achieved 36 medals at this year’s awards,” said Rishi Jain, director of impact at LFC. “Receiving recognition across every GOAL sustainability category demonstrates the club-wide continued commitment to fully integrating The Red Way strategy into every aspect of the club’s operations.
“We will continue to work with GOAL and our colleagues across the club to build on progress towards our goal of achieving net zero by 2040.”
The Reds’ success at the awards underlines their ongoing mission to build a better future for people, the planet and communities through football.
