Reece James has been withdrawn from England’s squad ahead of the international fixtures against Wales and Latvia due to an injury sustained during Chelsea’s recent 2-1 win over Liverpool.
James, who earned 21 caps for the Three Lions, was the only Chelsea player named in Thomas Tuchel’s latest call-up.
He featured nine times this season for the Blues, including in the victory over the Reds.
In his place, Manchester City’s Nico O’Reilly has received his first senior England call-up. The 20-year-old has already represented England at youth levels from U15 upward.
The move signals England’s need to adapt quickly to James’s absence ahead of a busy international window.
