Chelsea’s Maresca hopeful of Palmer’s return for Barcelona and Arsenal clashes

Chelsea remain hopeful that Cole Palmer will return in time for a huge Champions League showdown with Barcelona and a Premier League clash with Arsenal later this month.

The playmaker has been out since September with a groin injury and has missed nine straight matches.

Palmer is still not back in team training. That means he will also sit out Chelsea’s Champions League game against Qarabag on Wednesday. The Blues have badly missed his creativity, goals, and control in the final third.

Enzo Maresca gave another update on the midfielder’s recovery. And he made it clear that the club will not rush him, even though they are eager to have him back on the pitch.

“We hope so but with Cole, we try to schedule the beginning and then we need to review that. We go day by day with Cole. He is not taking any sessions with the team,” Maresca said.

Chelsea face Barcelona at Stamford Bridge on November 25 before hosting Arsenal five days later. Those fixtures could shape their season. Palmer’s presence would be a massive boost in both contests.

He added: “To be honest, I would like to have Cole here tomorrow. We’d like to have Cole every game. I’ve said many times that we are a better team with Cole. Unfortunately for us it’s out, it’s injury, but for sure we want him back very soon.”

Chelsea fans will keep their fingers crossed that their star man steps back onto the pitch this month. With the Champions League and Premier League challenges heating up, his return could be the spark the Blues need.
