Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has expressed optimism about his team and has said they will bounce back after suffering a fourth consecutive defeat on Saturday. The defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion was the first time Guardiola has lost four straight games in his managerial career and he has expressed optimism about bouncing back.
“That’s what it is always about – not being complacent when you win a lot,” said Guardiola.
“We know how difficult it is and how nice it will be when we win again.”
This also marked the first time that Manchester City have lost four games in a row in 18 years with their loss of form being attributed to injuries to key players with the likes of Ballon d’or winner Rodri, Kevin De Bruyne, Oscar Bobb, Jack Grealish and John Stones all facing varying times on the sidelines.
“Right now, we are not at our best, it’s obvious. But it’s still November – we’ll recover our best”, he continued.
“When the players come back, I don’t have any doubt that we will be back to our best.”
Defeats to Tottenham Hotspur, Bournemouth, Sporting Lisbon and Brighton and Hove Albion have put City five points behind league leaders Liverpool but Guardiola believes his ‘special’ team will return to winning ways soon.
“I was a football player and many times I lost a lot of games – four, five, six in a row,” he said.
“I never expect different, just because we won in the past or that we are special.
“People can believe that, but it’s not true”.
Manchester City have the chance to turn around their fortunes when they play host to Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier league after the international break.
