Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique bemoaned his side’s bad luck with injuries this season after suffering a 2-1 defeat to Bayern Munich in Tuesday night’s UEFA Champions League clash at the Parcs des Princes.
The French champions endured a frustrating night in front of their home fans as Luis Diaz struck twice before being sent off just before the interval for a reckless challenge on Achraf Hakimi.
The Moroccan defender, visibly emotional, had to leave the pitch in tears, further deepening PSG’s injury woes after France international Ousmane Dembele limped off earlier in the half.
Speaking after the game, Enrique admitted his side were not at their best for large parts of the contest but also noted how injury setbacks have dealt the Ligue 1 champions.
“Bayern were the better team in the first half,” he said. “They created more chances than we did. We gave away a lot of opportunities in the first half. When you give away too much, it’s normal to be losing the game at half-time.
“However, the second half was different because we had an extra player.
“I can’t remember a single match with the full squad, but it’s our responsibility to do better. Today we have to accept that the opponent was better than us.
“I’m calm. I know we’ll overcome this. I hope, during the season, to regain our form and have the players back to play at our level. We’ve played some good matches this season despite the problems we’ve had. It’s the same old story.”
Luis Enrique will be hoping Paris Saint-Germain can return to winning ways when they return to Ligue 1 action this weekend. They face Olympique Lyon on Sunday, November 9.
