Liverpool boss Arne Slot believes his team are edging closer to a return to their best form following a challenging run in recent weeks.
The English Premier League champions started the season brightly, winning their first seven games in all competitions, but endured a very difficult spell between September and November.
The Reds lost eight times in 11 matches during this period and also dropped out of the top half of the league standings.
However, they are without defeat in their last five games, although they have only won three of these matches, including the last two in all competitions.
“We are getting closer to the team I want us to be. That has gone with ups and downs. For me, that makes complete sense because of the changes we made in the summer and we made them on purpose because we thought we needed them”, Slot revealed.
“You have to adapt, so it takes time. We have been very unlucky with refereeing decisions. Even on Saturday, we missed out on a red card, but it didn’t hurt us. “
Liverpool’s recent week have been marred by the outburst of Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah, who publicly criticized the club’s hierarchy in an interview.
The four-time EPL golden boot winner was left out of the match-day squad for the 1-0 win over Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League, but made his return in the 2-0 win over Brighton last weekend.
“We deserved the wins in the start, but still, it’s small margins. We have to make sure this team gets to a level where refereeing decisions don’t influence this team.”
Liverpool will be eyeing a third consecutive win in all competitions when they visit the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to play the 2025 Europa League champions on Saturday evening.
