Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has confirmed that captain Bruno Fernandes could miss several weeks of action after suffering an injury in the 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa on Sunday.
The Portuguese midfielder went down with an injury in the first half of the clash and despite being able to continue till the break, he was substituted at the interval with Lisandro Martinez taking his place.
The 31-year-old has only previously missed two games with injury since arriving in England, but could now add to that tally with his recent problem.
“I think it’s soft tissue [Fernandes injury] so it’s going to be a while. We’ll see.
“It is really strange. During this year, especially at this time, we have so many problems, but we have to cope with that. I think [Jack] Fletcher did his first game, so that is good news, [Shea] Lacey the same, so we will try to find solutions and go for the next game”, Amorim stated.
“I think we were the better team today. We were unlucky, even with the injury of Bruno, but during the game even without him we were the better team. We did a very good job that no one is going to remember tomorrow because what matters is the result”, the manager continued.
Aston Villa continued their impressive form and recorded a 10th consecutive win with a 2-1 result in Sunday’s Premier League thriller.
Morgan Rogers scored two stunning goals, either side of a consolation from Matheus Cunha as Unai Emery’s men consolidated their third spot on the league standings.
Bruno Fernandes will now be out of the Red Devils clash against Newcastle United on Boxing Day, with his return date not yet known.
Manchester United will also welcome Wolves to Old Trafford in their final match of the year on the 30th, as they hope to improve on their seventh position on the standings.
