Roma push ahead with bold new stadium dream

AS Roma’s long-term stadium vision is finally gaining real momentum. The club has taken another big stride forward.

And now, the dream of leaving the Stadio Olimpico looks more realistic than ever. However, the bill will be huge.

The project is being driven by The Friedkin Group. The same ownership group that also controls Everton.

This season, Everton moved into the Hill Dickinson Stadium. Their era at Goodison Park ended after 133 years.

Roma watched closely. And now they want their own next chapter.

The Giallorossi have confirmed they have submitted crucial feasibility documents. This step pushes the project into the hands of the City Council commissions in early 2026.

The ambition is clear. The club want a modern, iconic home. One that reflects their history and passion.

“The submitted project represents the result of in-depth work carried out with technical precision, attention to sustainability, and a clear vision: to offer the city of Rome and its fans a facility worthy of their history, passion, and future,” read a club statement.

The proposed stadium will sit in Rome’s Pietralata district. It is planned to hold around 62,000 fans. That’s smaller than the 70,634 capacity of the Stadio Olimpico. But it promises to be more intimate.

The cost tells its own story. Reports suggest a price of around £1.1 billion. That would make it the most expensive stadium ever built in Italy.

Add Everton’s new ground. And The Friedkin Group will have poured close to £2 billion into stadium projects alone.

Roma hope to move in by 2028. The club also has one eye on Euro 2032. Hosting games would be a massive statement.

The design takes inspiration from Borussia Dortmund’s famous Yellow Wall. The Curva Sud is being imagined as Europe’s biggest single stand.

The Wolves believe it could hold 21,000 supporters. They call it the beating heart of the stadium. Roma detailed more features with pride.

“Iconic architecture inspired by Roman tradition, with contemporary lines and a strong connection to the local territory,” they said.

“Modern, multifunctional spaces designed to experience AS Roma beyond matchdays.

“Targeted initiatives to improve mobility, services, environmental sustainability, and urban integration, with the goal of creating a sports and social hub of reference for the capital.”

This feels like more than a stadium project. It feels like a power move. A statement of ambition. And another sign that Roma want to step onto Europe’s biggest stage and stay there.
