Guardiola confirms Dias ruled out and City defensive crisis deepens

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed that Ruben Dias will be sidelined for up to six weeks following a hamstring injury picked up against Chelsea.

And just as the title race begins to accelerate, the champions suddenly find themselves short of options at the heart of defence.

The blow comes on the same day the Club revealed that Josko Gvardiol requires surgery on an ankle fracture also sustained in the Chelsea clash.

With John Stones already unavailable, City now move into a crucial part of the season without three of their most trusted central defenders: a situation that shifts momentum and demands tactical reshuffling.

Speaking ahead of the home test against Brighton, Guardiola delivered the latest update, keeping things straightforward while acknowledging the reality of the squad situation.

“Everybody knows it,” he said. “I think so. Players are available and others are not.“[Ruben has injured his] hamstring [and will be out for] between four and six weeks. [Josko] is out for a long time.”

As if that wasn’t enough, City fans hoping for relief regarding John Stones were left waiting. The City boss made it clear there was no immediate return on the horizon.

And there was no positive update on the fitness of Stones.

He added: “[He is not] ready for the next games.

“Of course, he’s an important player for us for a long time and he was injured for a long time last season; this season looks the same.

“He’s trying a lot and trying everything, but he’s not fit.”

Now, as the fixtures keep coming like wave after wave of pressure, the gaffer must reshuffle his back line and rely on depth, adaptability, and tactical resilience.

The road ahead remains demanding but the Cityzens have been here before, and the next few weeks may define their season.
