PSG lift Trophee des Champions after dramatic draw and penalty win over Marseille

Paris Saint-Germain claimed the 2025 Trophee des Champions in dramatic fashion, edging rivals Olympique de Marseille 4–1 on penalties after a thrilling 2–2 draw in regulation time at Kuwait City’s Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium.

In a classic Le Classique full of twists, the French giants sealed the first trophy of the calendar year despite being pegged back twice by their bitter rivals.

PSG broke the deadlock in the 13th minute when Ousmane Dembele capitalised on a defensive lapse and finished with precision to give the hosts early control.

But Marseille fought back, and the encounter took a sharp turn in the second half. Mason Greenwood restored parity from the penalty spot in the 76th minute, levelling the score and reigniting hope for the visitors.

The momentum swung further in Marseille’s favour when Willian Pacho turned the ball into his own net in the 87th minute, handing the Phoceens a shock lead and leaving PSG with a mountain to climb.

Just as it seemed Marseille might hold on, dramatic late drama unfolded. Deep into stoppage time, Goncalo Ramos rose to the occasion, firing home in the 90+5th minute to snatch a last-gasp equaliser and take the match to penalties.

In the shootout, PSG showed composure and precision. Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes and Desire Doue all converted their penalties, while Marseille could only muster one successful spot kick through Amir Murillo, as M. O’Riley and H. J. Traor failed to find the net.

In the end, PSG lifted the Trophee des Champions 4–1 on penalties, adding another chapter to their dominance in the French Super Cup and giving their fans silverware to celebrate.

The win also continues PSG’s strong tradition in this competition and sets a positive tone with momentum and confidence.
