Ben White cut a satisfied but grounded figure after the final whistle, as his side powered to a three-goal victory that kept momentum firmly on their side.
While the scoreboard told a positive story, the defender was quick to admit there were areas that still need sharpening as the season gathers pace.
In typical match-day rhythm, White acknowledged that the performance did not fully hit top gear, particularly in moments of transition, but stressed that results remain the currency of progress at this stage.
“Obviously we’re delighted with the win, we didn’t play as well as we probably could have, and the transitions we probably didn’t handle as well as we should’ve,” he said following the final whistle.
Still, once the dust settled, the focus quickly shifted forward, with White underlining the importance of building on the victory rather than dwelling on the imperfections.
“But, yeah, we scored three, won the game, and it’s onto the next one now – we need to win that.”
White also reflected on his own contribution in front of goal, describing a moment that was more about instinct than design as he found himself in the right place at the right time.
“I just found myself free, went into the area where the ball was supposed to go, and it just hit me really!”
There was even time for a light-hearted exchange, as White joked about his scoring run and made it clear he is enjoying his football.
“Was it really, my last one? When I scored two? Oh, I like it here!”
From a tactical perspective, the defender highlighted the team’s desire to play with speed and purpose, especially when exploiting one-on-one situations that stretch opposition defences.
“We always want to play quickly,” White explained.
“It’s when we can be in those one-on-one situations which is amazing for us. I knew that Vik was going to be waiting in there, and I literally just fired it across as hard as I could, really.”
Praise was also reserved for Viktor Gyokeres, whose tireless movement was rewarded with a goal that capped off the team effort.
“It’s amazing [for Gyokeres to score]. You see how much he works during the game, and he doesn’t get the credit that he deserves, and yeah it’s amazing for him to score tonight.”
As the final whistle echoed, White’s message was clear: enjoy the moment briefly, then reset and go again, with another challenge already on the horizon.
“We’re ready to go again. We’ll move onto the next game – that’s our aim.”
He also made sure to acknowledge the supporters, whose energy once again carried through the stands and onto the pitch.
“The fans were amazing; they’re always amazing. It’s no shock that they come here and you can hear them all night, so yeah, we all really appreciate it.”
With confidence ticking upward and goals flowing, the win may not have been flawless, but it was effective and in a busy run of fixtures, that efficiency could prove decisive.
