The Confederation African Football (CAF) has issued a strong condemnation following incidents of unacceptable behaviour involving players and officials during the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 final between hosts Morocco and Senegal in Rabat.
In a statement released after the highly charged final, which saw Senegal edge Morocco to lift the continental crown, CAF made it clear that actions witnessed after and during the match fell short of the standards expected at Africa’s flagship football event.
While the final delivered drama and intensity on the pitch, the governing body expressed disappointment that the occasion was overshadowed by misconduct directed at match officials and organizers.
“The Confédération Africaine de Football (“CAF”) condemns the unacceptable behaviour of some players and officials during the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 Final between Morocco and Senegal in Rabat last night,” read the official statement published on CAF’s platforms.
CAF reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on behaviour that undermines the integrity of the game, stressing that respect for officials and competition structures is non-negotiable, especially on the biggest stage of African football.
“CAF strongly condemns any inappropriate behaviour which occurs during matches, especially those targeting the refereeing team or match organizers.”
In response to the incidents, the confederation confirmed that it has already begun a thorough review process.
All available footage from the final is being examined, with the aim of identifying those responsible and ensuring accountability through the appropriate judicial channels.
“CAF is reviewing all footage and will refer the matter to competent bodies for appropriate action to be taken against those found guilty.”
The AFCON 2025 final was watched by millions across the continent and beyond, making the events in Rabat particularly significant.
CAF’s swift response underlines its determination to protect the image of African football and uphold discipline, fairness and respect at all levels of the game.
As African football continues to grow in global stature, the confederation’s message is clear: passion and rivalry must never cross the line into behaviour that brings the sport into disrepute.
