Mikel Arteta has hailed the performance of Gabriel Jesus after his brace helped Arsenal to a 3-1 win over Inter Milan in Tuesday night’s Champions League clash.
The Gunners continued their perfect start to the UCL season with their seventh win as they sealed a top two spot irrespective of the result of their final match.
Jesus, who recently returned to action after a lengthy injury lay-off scored twice in the first half to set the North London side up for victory.
The Brazil forward opened the scoring in the 10th minute, but Petar Sucic leveled matters minutes later, scoring a stunning goal for the hosts.
Jesus grabbed his second of the game in the 31st minute to put Arsenal back in front, a lead they held on to going into the break.
“There’s an unbelievable player. The bigger the game is, the more comfortable he plays”, Arteta revealed admiration for the Brazilian after the match.
“I’m so happy for him. I think he deserves the man of the match award. Not just for the goals but for all the work he has done
“We have been missing Gabby a lot. Now we have profiles in different positions. It only makes us better.”
Victor Gyokeres added a third with a superb finish six minutes from time as the Gunners overcame the Nerazzurri in a thrilling contest.
Arteta also hailed the overall performance of the team, as they got the job done in a difficult environment.
“I’m very proud of the team. We needed a special performance and a very complete performance a top side and we certainly done that tonight”, he continued.
“The courage, attitiude and willingness to go to another level impressed me the most. To do it in San Siro against the best team in Serie A and one of the best in Europe is something else.
“It was about being better than them. We knew the way that we had to navigate through different stages.”
Arsenal are assured of a top-two finish and now face Kairat Almaty in their final league phase game next week, hoping for a win to continue their perfect start.
