Youri Tielemans will miss up to two months of action with an ankle injury after a successful assessment, adding to Aston Villa’s growing injury list.
The Belgian midfielder picked up the injury after a clash with Lewis Miley during last Sunday’s 2-0 win at Newcastle United and will now miss about eight weeks of action.
He was forced off in the 78th minute of the victory and was replaced by Lamare Bogarde, as Villa claimed their first win at St. James’ Park since 2005.
Tielemans’ latest absence adds to the club’s injury woes, leaving them short of options in the midfield with several other options unavailable.
Boubacar Kamara has been ruled out of the season after suffering a knee problem, while John McGinn will miss up to six weeks with an injury of his own and England midfielder Ross Barkley also remains unavailable for selection.
Tielemans has been very influential in the club’s surprise title challenge this season and has played 17 times in the Premier League this season, providing four assists.
Unai Emery’s side have been forced to act in the transfer market and have reportedly hijacked Chelsea’s move for Brazil midfielder Douglas Luiz.
The 27-year-old left Villa in 2024 after a successful spell, but will now rejoin the club on loan till the end of the season in a major midfield reinforcement.
Luiz joined Juventus after leaving Aston Villa, but the move did not go as planned as he struggled to make an impact at the club and was loaned out to Nottingham Forest last summer.
He will be given an important role in Villa’s league and European ambitions this season, especially in the absence of three of the club’s midfield options.
