Tottenham Hotspur manager Thomas Frank has praised his side’s brilliance after they recorded a 2-0 win at Eintracht Frankfurt in Wednesday’s Champions League clash.
Spurs went into the clash without 14 senior players due to injury and suspension, while there were doubts over the fitness of Randal Kolo Muani, who was involved in a minor accident ahead of the clash.
However, they recorded an incredible victory to finish fourth on the 36-team standings, putting behind a poor performance in the league.
“To actually finish fourth in the Champions League is incredible, 17 points, so there are a lot of positives”, Frank hailed his side after the victory.
“I think very happy with the result, but even more happy with the performance. I think we looked in control more or less throughout the game.”
Xavi Simons early goal was ruled out by the officials after Destiny Udogie was adjudged to have committed a foul in the buildup.
However, it was Kolo Muani who broke the deadlock just 66 seconds into the second half, getting on the end of a header from Cristian Romero.
Dominic Solanke added a second later in the half to seal a fifth win for Spurs who progressed to the Round of 16 automatically after a fourth-placed finish.
“I am very proud of the players and the character shown. Dortmund and this game had 12 outfield players available, so a lot of players had to push through 90 minutes, maybe not being there, so the character and mentality is big in the team”, Frank added.
“A more than well-deserved 2-0 win, away from home, in the Champions League.”
The draws for the next round of the UCL will hold on Friday, when Tottenham, as well as other teams, will find out their possible opponents in the Round of 16.
