Joao Pedro hails “dream” night in Naples as Chelsea star bags brace

Joao Pedro was all smiles under the lights of the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona as Chelsea delivered a statement performance against Napoli, with the Brazilian forward stealing the spotlight by firing in two stunning goals.

In true big-game fashion, his brace powered the Blues to a memorable night in Naples and left the attacker convinced this is only the beginning of something special.

Speaking after the final whistle, Joao Pedro underlined the significance of the result, both for the squad and the supporters who made the trip.

“This feels very important, for us, for the fans, for everyone,” he said. “We are a top club, and this will give us more confidence.

“I think it was a ‘dream’ game. The whole team has worked hard every day to put on the pitch what the gaffer wants,” he explained.

“I think everyone tried to help each other. The team has given me a lot of confidence, and I try my best always. Let’s try to work hard to be consistent, and I’m very happy to score two goals. Now we need to work hard.

“For the first goal I knew I had more space, I could turn and when I saw the space, I just tried to hit the target.

“For the second, I knew Cole was with me to run into the space and it was a great combination.”He was also quick to praise Palmer’s influence as the tempo increased after the break.

“The second half of the game was more open. Cole is a brilliant player when he is on the pitch – he is a special player. I’m always happy to play with him, and he’s a very important player.”

With Chelsea now safely through to the Champions League last 16, Pedro is already looking ahead, eager to maintain momentum across competitions.

“I always try to do my best. I’m very happy to get these goals. My team-mates also expect that from me.

“When you start winning more games, you can gain more confidence in each other, and now we need to rest and be positive. We are in the next round and now we need to rest and now focus on the Premier League.”

For Chelsea and Joao Pedro, Naples may well prove to be the launchpad for an exciting second half of the season.
